CCTV systems and speed cameras have a major contribution to higher levels of safety on British roads, a recent YouGov survey has been able to find.

Almost half of Britons (48 per cent) think that CCTV and speed cameras on roads have made them safer, while one in three (34 per cent) think they have had no impact at all, and 10 per cent actually think they have made roads more dangerous.

The survey of 1,593 adults, commissioned for the new ITV two-part documentary Car Crash Britain: Caught on Camera, also found that younger drivers are most likely to think cameras have made roads safer, with 53 per cent of 18-24 year olds choosing this statement.
