The widespread use of CCTV surveillance systems has managed to help drive a 48% drop in crime levels within the Lincolnshire town of Barton-upon-Humber near Scunthorpe, a news report in the local media has revealed.

By implementing a reliable CCTV surveillance system and improving the lighting system across the town, local authorities have managed to halve crime between August 2011 and August 2013.

As Paul Vickers, Barton town councillor explains: ”We have extended the CCTV and we have really good lighting in the town – All these things really help focus and concentrate on areas where there has been trouble.”

“The reduction, indicated in August, reflects the hard work and dedication of officers who help to detect crime in North Lincolnshire. We will continue to work to bring offenders to justice and ask the public to help support us in this by reporting any potential criminal activity to police.” a spokeswoman for Humberside Police.

Since CCTV played such a pivotal role in reducing crime levels across Barton-upon-Humber, implementing such systems is a measure other local authorities should consider as well, and this is specifically where CCTV Surveillance could put its extensive experience to very good use.
