A local council has installed CCTV cameras at every entrance of a run-down Canvey housing estate as part of an extensive refurbishment process aimed at changing its bad reputation.

The Castle Point Council has spent £425,000 revamping Chapman Court, in Seaview Road, a news report in the local media can reveal. Beside the aforementioned CCTV cameras, improvements also included new lights, security gates, new drains and gullies, as well as more plants and seating in the communal courtyard.

All residents in the 32 properties have been given key fobs to access the building, and the authority has worked closely with police and architects to ensure the building is safe.

Following the refurbishment process, the estate, which was officially reopened on Friday, will now be known as Ozonia Gardens.
