A network comprising close to 8,000 active CCTV cameras watches over Britain’s road network, capturing close to 26 million images every day and supplying them to the police and intelligence agencies, a news report in the mainstream media can now reveal.

Also, given the size of this network, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that a national database that stores pictures taken by the automated numberplate recognition (ANPR) cameras currently has 17 billion images in its archive – thought to be the biggest of its kind anywhere in the world.

Furthermore, it’s quite likely that this number would only increase over the next five years with advances in technology and the roll-out of more fixed and portable cameras. In fact, police forces believe it should be possible to read and store between 50 million and 75 million “reads” a day by 2018.

CCTV Surveillance has an extensive level of experience in the installation and maintenance of both large and small CCTV systems capable of providing your site with a sophisticated monitoring system.
