  1. CCTV surveillance systems used for monitoring farm animal’s wellbeing

Comments Off on CCTV surveillance systems used for monitoring farm animal’s wellbeing

CCTV systems are normally used for preventing anti-social behaviour and enforcing security, but now they’re being put to good work for a rather different purpose – tracking farm animal movements.

Researchers have set up cameras, sensors and microphones at some 20 experimental smart farms all over Europe – to track animal movements, a news report has been able to suggest.

Animal scientists, bio-engineers and vets are part of this European research project. They say that fast, chaotic animal movements could indicate temperature, feeding or drinking problems for instance. However, researchers indicate that they can identify real problems in 95 out of every 100 alarms raised.

Information researchers hope will eventually help farmers to increase the safety and traceability of products.

“One of the big next steps is to bring internet to all farms in Europe. We are still far away from that,” commented Daniel Berckmans, a bioscience engineer and professor at the University of Leuven and EU-PLF project coordinator.

“So the farmer of the future will not only sell meat or animals, he will sell data. And that will create new information for all people in the food chain and the consumer.”

CCTV Surveillance offers a wide range of digital cameras available in various types and sizes (from Digital CCTV Bullet Cameras to Infra-red CCTV Cameras), but also quite an extensive range of DVRs. 2. New CCTV cameras to be deployed across New Waltham hotspots

Comments Off on New CCTV cameras to be deployed across New Waltham hotspots

New CCTV cameras will be installed to tackle anti-social behaviour in the village of New Waltham, in Lincolnshire, a news report in the local media has found.

The two new units will be positioned opposite Lloyds Pharmacy off Greenlands Avenue and near the New Waltham Community Pavilion on St Clements Way, and have been funded by money allocated in the Police and Crime Commissioner’s budget.

The cameras will be installed following a spate of shed burglaries, and burglaries described as ‘non-dwelling’ in the area.

PCSO Steve Sutton of Humberside Police said the new security measures would hopefully act as a deterrent as well as providing evidential material in criminal investigations.

“Areas around the shops in New Waltham have suffered with anti-social behaviour in the past,” he said.

“Hopefully it will act more than a deterrent than anything.”

Comments Off on CCTV system installed to prevent fly tipping in Bedfont

A new CCTV system will be put in place to prevent fly tipping in Bedfont and potentially catch the culprits, a recent news report in the local media has suggested.

Following repeated reports of sacks of unwanted goods and piles of rubbish being dumped outside the Tesco Express store on Staines Road, Hounslow council has joined forces with the supermarket giant to put a stop to the issue.

Although the fly tipping has taken place on private land and therefore is the responsibility of the land owner, in this case Hounslow council is taking a stern approach to the issue and is considering CCTV cameras to catch people red-handed.

Councillor Richard Foote, cabinet member for community protection at Hounslow Council, said: “In this instance Hounslow council’s enforcement team has been working closely with Tesco to tackle the reoccurring issue of fly tipping outside their Bedfont store.

“The council’s enforcement team pro-actively investigated the fly tipping by going through the bags of rubbish to link the waste to any individual, business or property.

“We are looking to install CCTV cameras to help identify anyone fly tipping at this spot in the future.

  4. CCTV cameras to become mandatory for all Rotherham taxi drivers

Comments Off on CCTV cameras to become mandatory for all Rotherham taxi drivers

All taxis in Rotherham will be fitted with CCTV cameras as part of an effort to improve both passengers’ and driver’s security, as well as rebuild trust in the town’s taxi industry, a recent news report in the local media has revealed.

The system will record video footage from inside the vehicle, and in some cases outside the vehicle, whenever the vehicle is being used as a taxi. Whenever an unaccompanied child or vulnerable adult is being carried in the vehicle, audio recording must be activated by the driver, but both the driver and the passenger can also activate the audio recording at any time.

Only people authorised by the council can access any recorded footage – and drivers will be unable to access footage.

The council will only download the footage in certain circumstances, such as if there is a complaint or incident involving a taxi, or if the council wants to check that the system is being used properly.

Council commissioner Mary Ney said the council believed the cameras would “provide protection, confidence and reassurance to the public when they are travelling in a taxi”.

She added: “The system also provides protection to taxi drivers who can experience abusive behaviour.

“The new camera rules are just one part of the policy which has been introduced to support drivers to do their job, by rebuilding trust and confidence.

“All drivers have known about the requirement for taxi cameras since last summer.”

Comments Off on New mobile CCTV system to combat illegal school run parking in Lincolnshire

New mobile CCTV cameras are set to be deployed outside eight schools in Lincolnshire as part of a new £70,000 trial aimed at stopping parents from parking illegally during school runs, a news report has been able to find.

Lincolnshire County Council has pledged £35,000 to improve markings outside the schools and £33,000 to fund the cameras.

The CCTV will provide evidence for enforcement proceedings and start in January 2017. The eight schools included the trial are: William Alvey Primary, in Sleaford; Westfield School and Bourne Grammar, in Bourne; St Thomas’ School and Boston West Academy, in Boston; National Junior School, in Grantham; and St Francis Hill School and The Priory Whitham Academy, in Lincoln.

The council said: “The enforcement of the school zigzags will help to deter drivers from parking in an area that jeopardises the safety of children and school crossing patrol personnel.” It added that previous ways of policing parking outside schools did not always provide conclusive evidence whereas CCTV footage would be “sufficiently robust”.

  6. Pensioners urged to install CCTV in their homes to prevent theft and fraud

Comments Off on Pensioners urged to install CCTV in their homes to prevent theft and fraud

A charity is urging pensioners to install CCTV systems in their homes in a bid to curb the phenomena of theft and fraud against elderly victims, which has doubled in a year.

According to a news source, Action on Elder Abuse (AEA) estimated money and goods worth £18 million was stolen from elderly victims, many of whom were targeted by friends, family or carers. Separate figures showed adult social services were alerted to 21,935 cases of alleged theft and fraud against elderly victims in the 12 months to March last year. Of those 4,168 complaints related to carers.

Two-thirds of cases registered by the Health and Social Care Information Centre involved allegations of financial abuse of the elderly by friends and family.

The figures have been linked in part to elderly people being cash-rich, thanks to generous pensions and benefits such as the winter fuel allowance, in combination with a rise in people coming and going from their homes to provide care.

It has led AEA to advise concerned relatives or friends of vulnerable elderly people to consider using surveillance systems, including hidden spy-style cameras, to catch thieves red-handed.

Comments Off on North Lincolnshire Council to spend £267,000 on CCTV cameras

A local authority has revealed plans to increase its spending for CCTV surveillance as part of a wider plan to tackle crime in the area, a recent news report has been able to reveal.

The North Lincolnshire Council’s spending in 2016-17 on closed circuit television cameras (CCTV) is to be increased to £267,000.

A council spokeswoman said: “The base budget for CCTV has remained stable over the years, however spends on the cameras vary from year to year.

“For example, one year we may need to carry out maintenance on cameras and other years we might not. Some years we have had additional capital funding when specific new schemes have been identified so our capital budget varies and our revenue budget fluctuates.”

  8. CCTV Surveillance system in Calderdale undergoes major revamp

Comments Off on CCTV Surveillance system in Calderdale undergoes major revamp

The CCTV Surveillance system covering the town centres in Halifax, Todmorden, Hebden Bridge, Mytholmroyd, Elland, Brighouse and Sowerby Bridge has undergone a major revamp worth an estimated £680,000, a recent news report in the local media has been able to reveal.

The upgrade came after the Council’s Cabinet approved funding as the previous system was installed in the mid-1990s and was outdated. Updates in technology since then mean that the new equipment costs less to run and uses less energy.

It is the latest step in the continued joint work of Calderdale Community Safety Partnership to keep people safe. The partnership consists of Calderdale Council, West Yorkshire Police, Pennine Housing, NHS Calderdale, West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, West Yorkshire Probation Service, the Hospital Trust and North Bank Forum.

The Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities, Cllr Steve Sweeney, said: “I’m extremely pleased with the upgraded equipment. This is an important investment as CCTV plays a vital role in keeping people safe. Community safety is a joint effort between the Council and other organisations. We can now achieve this more effectively, reduce the ongoing cost to local taxpayers and be more environmentally friendly.”

West Yorkshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Mark Burns-Williamson, also commented: “I welcome the improvements to the district’s CCTV system. Making positive steps such as this, working with partners, will help people in Calderdale feel safer and be safer and forms part of a wider CCTV strategy for the whole of West Yorkshire.”

  9. ANPR cameras to help prevent high street offences in Uttoxeter

Comments Off on ANPR cameras to help prevent high street offences in Uttoxeter

A local council is considering deploying ANPR cameras to deter motorists from illegally driving down the local High Street, a news report has been able to find.

Currently, some motorists regularly flout regulations, which specify no access between 10am and 4pm. Some drivers go the wrong way up the one-way street in Uttoxeter.

Helen Gill, county council district commissioning lead for East Staffordshire, said that a number of options were being looked at and there would ‘hopefully be some news soon’.

She said: “The borough council, police and I are having discussions about the bollard and automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) is one of the options on the table.”

  10. Police force to boost number of ANPR surveillance cameras

Comments Off on Police force to boost number of ANPR surveillance cameras

One of the UK’s largest police forces has revealed plans to increase the number of ANPR surveillance cameras in the county by a third, a recent news report has been able to suggest.

Kent Police will be installing 34 new automatic number plate recognition cameras (ANPR) over the next few years, adding to the total of 103 already deployed in the field. The police force considers the cameras to be extremely useful, since they have helped solved dozens of crimes. Last year, images from the cameras were used as evidence in 163 court cases, including murder, robbery, drug supply, money laundering and human trafficking trials.

The force’s ANPR manager Martin Lyddon said: “Between April 2014 and March 2015 a total of 314 arrests were made as a direct result of stops from ANPR data.

“Between January 2015 and October 2015, 216 vehicles have been seized as having been used in crime or as having been uninsured.

“Around one in every five ANPR stops in the first 10 months of 2015 resulted in an arrest as we continue to effectively use ANPR to deny criminals using Kent’s roads.”

He continued: “We want to be very transparent around our use of ANPR in Kent, which is why we are publicising our plans.

“Our plans to increase our ANPR coverage across Kent is all part of our on-going commitment to keeping Kent safe and making it as difficult as possible for criminals to operate in our county.”
