Car drivers in Glasgow have been slapped with more than £4million in CCTV fines since the beginning of the year, which represents 11 per cent of the entire UK figure and takes the total amount raised by the city council since 2013 to £11million, a recent news report in the local business media has been able to reveal.

In total, 131,238 Penalty Charge Notices have been issued this year from the city’s 15 CCTV road safety cameras for offences such as driving in bus lanes, through no-entry areas or committing illegal U-turns.

Bailie Elaine McDougall, of Glasgow City Council, said: “Camera enforcement has been an effective deterrent. However driving in bus lanes has always been an offence for anyone other than authorised vehicles and, if a driver is found to be illegally driving in a bus lane, a charge will be issued.”
