CCTV cameras to protect Chester’s Rows against anti-social behaviour

Comments Off on CCTV cameras to protect Chester’s Rows against anti-social behaviour

Three new cameras have been installed on both sides of Watergate Street in Chester as part of an initiative to protect the historic listed wooden Rows installed in the area against anti-social behaviour, a recent news report in the local media was able to reveal.

The project received the necessary funding from the Cheshire West and Chester Council and Cheshire Fire Authority, which contributed £25,000 and £5,500 respectively. This important initiative was the direct result of concerns expressed by the fire service, council and police about yobs vandalising, urinating and smoking on the listed wooden structures.

The cameras can swivel through 360 degrees and are monitored at the council’s Town Hall CCTV Control Room which is staffed and operational 24 hours every day. The CCTV officers work closely with Cheshire Police who are based in the same building.
