It is hoped that a new CCTV surveillance camera will curb a spate of anti-social behaviour and vandalism that has recently affected a busy shopping street in the centre of Boston, a recent news report in the local media has been able to find.

Businesses in Emery Lane have had windows repeatedly smashed this year, alongside a number of other incidents where the lane joins West Street.

At a meeting of Boston Town Area Committee (BTAC) last week, Boston’s Borough Council’s community safety manager Peter Hunn outlined the need for a grant to pay for the new camera.

Cameras currently cover half of the lane and the entrance to it from West Street. The central one was previously decommissioned but left up to act as a deterrent. The cost of installing a new camera would be £5,368, Mr Hunn explained, which would help to prevent anti-social behaviour-related crime, which happens mostly at night and at weekends.
