Thieves attempted a daring robbery during museum visiting hours. The gang forced open a display case at the Norfolk premises and quickly grabbed the head of a valuable rhino’s horn within. However the four men were stopped from getting away with it after they were disturbed by museum staff who recovered it from them. Rhino horns can fetch about £50,000 per kilogram in illegal trade, making them at least as valuable as class ‘A’ drugs or gold.
Digital Dome Cameras from CCTV Surveillance are one of the options a museum or similar building can purchase to thwart robberies. Dome cameras are most popular because they can be installed discreetly on a wall or ceiling corner with all the cables hidden within the casing. Dome Cameras come with built in lenses, usually one of two types. A fixed focal length lens where the view cannot be changed, or an adjustable vari-focal lens for cameras that need to change focal distance from time to time.
