  5. CCTV system hacked to help poker player win $32 million

Comments Off on CCTV system hacked to help poker player win $32 million

An Australian casino’s own security systems were turned against it, allowing a team of fraudsters to win an impressive $32m in a high-stakes poker game, an article in the local press reveals.

The Crown casino in Melbourne was involved in a fraud worthy of a Hollywood blockbuster script, perpetrated by a group of high-tech scammers.

The group used an accomplice that was a regular of the house, having previously spent a lot of money in the Casino. They had him join a high-stakes poker game, and then provided him with vital information regarding the other player’s hands, gained after hacking into the casino’s CCTV system.

The fraud was eventually discovered and the high-rolling player evicted and banned from the casino’s premises for life.

It’s quite clear that the casino’s own internal security system had some faults that were cleverly exploited by the team of fraudsters, although there’s still an investigation being carried out regarding some specific details of the breach.

This proves only too well just how important is for any such venue to have a comprehensive access control and surveillance system installed, and this is exactly the type of service CCTV Surveillance can offer your business.

  8. Local councils starting to shut down CCTV cameras due to budget cuts

Comments Off on Local councils starting to shut down CCTV cameras due to budget cuts

CCTV surveillance in the public domain seems to be, unfortunately, on a downward spiral, as one in five councils has cut the number of CCTV cameras on the streets, raising concerns regarding the levels of safety and crime, a new report reveals.

In fact, out of the 209 local authorities who’ve answered the Freedom of Information request made by a Labour MP, 46 councils have reported a reduction since 2010 or have no CCTV cameras at all. Obviously, the figures relate to “public-facing” CCTV cameras, managed by the authorities, not the ones installed in private institutions.

Ms de Piero, the shadow Home Affairs minister, said: “Cuts which have gone too far and too fast have led to a situation where one in five local authorities has reduced the number of public CCTV cameras they operate since the last general election. CCTV is a vital tool in the fight against crime and the Government is making it harder for communities and authorities to use and place CCTV. Worryingly this also comes at a time when there are 15,000 fewer police officers and when many local authorities across the country have started to turn off street lighting just to save money.”

Given these cuts in council-funded, public CCTV surveillance, it’s quite likely that more business and even home owners will decide to invest in their own safety and install such solutions on their premises.

CCTV Surveillance has in store a wide array of surveillance solutions, whether we’re talking about CCTV cameras, DVRs or the PC software that makes them all work together and offers users a very comprehensive set of control, recording and playback options.

  9. New CCTV system to be set up in Norfolk towns, volunteers needed

Comments Off on New CCTV system to be set up in Norfolk towns, volunteers needed

CCTV cameras to be installed in two Norfolk towns require volunteers to step up and manage the oversight process, in order to get the surveillance process up and running by the summer of 2013.

The 12 surveillance cameras set to be installed in Diss and Wymondham will be managed by the South Norfolk Community CCTV Group, whose members are yet to volunteer for the job. The partnership between communities and the Norfolk Council has a budget of £66,000 for installing up the infrastructure and some of the initial cameras.

Volunteers would possibly be needed to man the cameras at peak times, such as on Friday and Saturday nights. However, the CCTV cameras will be functioning non-stop, broadcasting images to the Norfolk police headquarters at Wymondham for monitoring.

CCTV Surveillance is an expert in the installation and management of advanced security systems, with an extensive experience in setting up surveillance video cameras.

Moreover, we offer a comprehensive range of digital DVR recording systems, as well as an advanced software solution for controlling one’s entire CCTV setup right from their computer, watching live surveillance feeds and retrieving evidence-quality footage, need-be.

  10. Only 1.85 million CCTV cameras installed in the UK, claims report

Comments Off on Only 1.85 million CCTV cameras installed in the UK, claims report

Although the United Kingdom is often pictured as the country with the largest number of functioning CCTV systems installed, that’s apparently not exactly the case, a recent report estimating that the actual number of cameras currently working around the country is of just around 1.85 million, which is far from the previous estimates, of around 4.2 million.Only 1.85 million CCTV cameras installed in the UK, claims report

The data comes as a result of an extensive study carried out by deputy chief constable of Cheshire, Graeme Gerrard, who’s also the lead on CCTV issues for the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO).

After prompting a Cheshire-wide study regarding the use of CCTV within the business environment and extrapolating the data for the rest of the country, based on population and land use patterns, Mr. Gerrard concluded that there are around 1.7-million privately-owned cameras installed across the UK.

By adding to that number the 33,433 cameras operated by local authorities and 115,000 as an estimate of the number of cameras on public transit throughout the UK, we get the 1.85 million figure.

Of course, it remains to be seen whether the aforementioned report will prompt an overall review of the surveillance solutions installed across the country. If that’s the case, CCTV Surveillance is just the company to approach on such a matter, given our extensive expertise in the field of security and surveillance solutions.

We offer a very comprehensive set of Digital CCTV Body Cameras and Lenses, including here Digital CCTV Bullet Cameras designed specifically for situations when space and price are very important factors, Digital CCTV Covert Cameras, that can be easily hidden within a variety of locations, as well as Infra-red CCTV Cameras, that are very popular due to their ability to see in ‘absolute darkness’.

Furthermore, we also have in store a very comprehensive set of digital video recorders, not to mention a state of the art CCTV software application to bring the whole system together.
